Soak 2tbs of tur dal
Gooseberry size tamarind for 30mins
Grind 2 medium size tomatoes with few curry leaves,1tsp of cumin seeds,1/4tsp of pepper 1 green chilli a few coriander stems and coriander seeds1tsp and small piece ginger
Extract the tamarind juice and add the tomato paste and allow to boil,in the meantime add turmeric powder,hing,jaggery (optional),salt to taste.let it boil for 15mins or till the raw smell of tamarind goes.let the gas be in medium flame or else it will ooze out.
By this time tur must have cooked,add it and pour required quantity of water. Don’t add water up to the brim.A little gap is needed.
After adding water let the rasam come to a boil.Garnish with coriander leaves.
For tadka ghee 1tsp,mustard seeds and jeera
